Luminous Peak

The Way of Awakening, transmitted from India by Shakyamuni Buddha and then in its Japanese form by Master Eihei Dogen, was handed down to us by the great missionary Mokudo Taisen Deshimaru. This living Zen is embodied by Master Sando Kaisen, who leads monthly retreats here, as well as a spring retreat and an autumn retreat.apart from the «Luminous Peak», numerous retreats are organised in six other countries.

The Way is nothing other than silent, disinterested sitting, which is the heart of all activities. This sitting is not meditation because it does not fixate on any object or concentrate on any mental content. It is good to recognise that we have always had Buddha Nature.Without pursuing any goal, it is a question of being present during the sitting itself. Dogen wrote: «Even if some people know from experience that sitting is the Buddha Dharma, no one knows how to sit for the sake of sitting».

The retreats at Le Pic Lumineux have a taste of simplicity. There is nothing to add to this simplicity, and there is nothing that is not an expression of the great Way.It is good to come here with a simple mind, stripped of all intention, all aim and all spiritual-imaginative seeking. Here, there is no severity, no particular morality, no promise of happiness or freedom. Each of us has always been enlightened in our own Essence. This «each and every one of us» has formed the holy Community of the venerable Buddha since time immemorial. So life is punctuated by sounds that we follow naturally, disregarding our mind and its disruptive tendencies. No words can define the marvellous flower of meditation. Simply sitting« is the Buddha's great Awakening.
