Recently, a disciple asked me how to educate others, and I replied that it was up to each person to find their own method.
As far as I am concerned, I prefer education through gentleness, depth and lightness.
However, there are people who do not understand this method, and I therefore have to raise my voice and put energy into waking them up. This inevitably destroys me and hurts me.
I am on earth to awaken those who are asleep in their certainties and habits.
That is my only mission and my only reason for living. There are no others.
There are disciples who have deep connections with me and with whom I am friends. They do not need to be shouted at. They understand and do what they have to do. That is ideal.
I ask educators to be gentle and kind to their loved ones and to develop good qualities.
When I am no longer here, then they will do as they please.
To be a good disciple, one must possess great human qualities. As for each person's shortcomings, everyone must work on them and keep working on them.
We must not remain stagnant like standing water and endlessly repeat the same trends.
Many lazy disciples get shouted at by their master, and instead of freeing the master from this suffering, they continue as before. Then, one day, they get tired of being told off and leave with a critical attitude.
Some even form clans to practise together, determined to do without a master in the hope of achieving enlightenment or something else.
A disciple must first be a true man, then he must develop Bodaishin, the spirit of the Way, otherwise his coming has no meaning.
It is important to be determined in whatever you undertake so that you do not find yourself in an unpleasant and disappointing situation in the future.
Teachers and pupils should be friends. But for that to happen, you need to have the spirit of a teacher.
What is the spirit of the master? It is the spirit of the beginner.
I always maintain a beginner's mind, and my many teachers are nature itself.
I never think I am in control.
I only wish to become a man who is not ashamed to stand naked before the evening moon.
Powers, knowledge, wisdom, intelligence and learning are armour that is too heavy to bear.
All beings fear death, but there is no death. Only a change of world.
That is why we must learn to change, change and change again.
That is what it means to go with the natural flow of things.
Everything that is fixed decays, and everything that changes lives forever.
Many of you are educators.
Be kind and patient, detached and present.
